We approach public space as a palimpsest, like a medieval document from which the original text has been scraped or washed off and then rewritten. We search for traces of deeper inscriptions, processes of deletion and overwriting of cultural and historical contexts. This also happened in 2015 during Dellbrügge & de Moll’s performance Das Monumentale ist meine Krankheit (“The monumental is my illness”) at St. Paul’s Gate, behind the war memorial by Alexander Silveri (1958–1961). The tour begins here and leads us to a medieval chapel with a wall painting that also depicts war: as a parable, cats vs. mice.
