Fine art from the 19th century to the present.

Today

Neue Galerie Graz As one of the largest and most important in the country, the collection of the Neue Galerie Graz with the BRUSEUM comprises more than 70,000 works by Austrian and international artists from the 19th century to the present, from a wide variety of media, from regionally to internationally important positions.

1895

The museum building in Neutorgasse is erected. It houses the two collections on which the Neue Galerie Graz collection is based - the painting gallery of the Estates Drawing Academy and the art collection of the Joanneum.

1941

Separation of the Landesbildergalerie into the Alte Galerie and the Neue Galerie and transfer of the collection to the Palais Herberstein in Sackstraße. While the collection of the Alte Galerie included art up to 1800, the Neue Galerie took over the holdings of the 19th and 20th centuries.

2011

In the course of the reconstruction of the Joanneum Quarter, the Neue Galerie Graz in the museum building at Neutorgasse 45 was architecturally linked with the historic Joanneum buildings in Raubergasse, which are home to the Natural History Museum and the CoSA - Center of Science Activities.

Anna Brus has passed away at the age of 82

Anna Brus, one of the last contemporary witnesses of Viennese Actionism, passed away peacefully in Graz on Friday, 4 April, after a long and serious illness. She had been Günter Brus' wife and companion since 1961 and as such was a pillar of support, inspiration and co-actor in his actions. She was his manager, his ultimate support and his harshest critic. The artist's work would be inconceivable without the supportive influence of his wife.
