The bed in the large parlour of the Kluppeneggerhof belonged to Peter Rosegger's parents Maria and Lorenz Rosegger. He wrote that a bed piled high was the pride of every farmer's wife. The letters IHS and the year 1842 - the year of Maria and Lorenz Rosegger's wedding - are painted at the head of the bed. There is a drawer under the bed, which was pulled out in the evening as a sleeping place for the youngest children.
The rest of the family, the older children, servants and maids had no bed of their own. They slept on straw sacks in the attic, on the stove bench or even in the stable with the animals, as it was warmer there than in the unheated attic.
The large parlour in the farmhouse was not just a place for parents and the youngest members of the family to sleep, but also a meeting place. People also ate, prayed and worked here.
