As part of the World Wood Days 2019, the so-called Pahlmühle from Kalserbach was reconstructed in the Austrian Open-Air Museum using old technology with original old tools and has since been the 100th object there.
Stock mills are unique objects of rural economic and technical history. The water wheel lies horizontally on the underside of the shaft, the so-called ‘stick’. This is vertical and is connected directly to the runner stone, the upper stone of the millstone pair, without gearing. The bearing and with it the entire shaft with water wheel and rotor stone can be lifted using a lever mechanism; this allows the distance between the stones and therefore the fineness of the flour to be adjusted.
The mills, which were probably built before the 18th century, covered the flour requirements of individual farms.
