Signal from Dachstein creates space for shared reflection on the future of this climate-sensitive Alpine region through a combination of art, science, nature and culture.
Signal from Dachstein is a multi-year community art project in the Dachstein region that weaves together many artistic threads. In 2021, the La Strada festival project was launched on the day of the summer solstice: Dutch artist duo Strijbos & Van Rijswijk collaborated with local artists to create a landscape opera with the overtures converging on the glacier from the surrounding valleys.
Presented in the Marble Hall of Schloss Trautenfels, the audiovisual installation Signal from Dachstein now offers an overview of the varied artistic exploration of the Dachstein region in direct dialogue with science. Since 2012, five local artists – Marie-Theres Härtel, Christoph Huber, Katharina Pfennich, Christoph Szalay and Stefanie Weberhofer – have been working intensively on further developing their work in the context of climate change.
The landscape opera, which has been specially rearranged for the Marble Hall, is combined with landscape photographs of the glacier to create an immersive experience. This in-depth exploration of diverse scientific topics highlights the role of the Dachstein glacier and the surrounding region as an archive of natural and cultural history and as a thermometer of our planet.
The exhibition project is supported by LEADER-Region Ennstal-Ausseerland.
