Schloss Eggenberg

Dear visitors!

Enjoy your visit and help us to look after Eggenberg Park. Please help us to protect it by observing the regulations set out below. They are designed to protect visitors, plants, animals and park features, while allowing you and other visitors to enjoy and experience the park.

§1 Applicability

These park regulations apply to the publicly accessible part of the park grounds of Schloss Eggenberg, as well as to all landscaped areas along the park walls and the areas of the park entrances.

§2 Publicly accessible parks - Use and preservation

(1) Publicly accessible parking areas must be used in such a way that other visitors are not endangered or unreasonably inconvenienced, and that facilities, equipment and structures (such as benches, tables, playground equipment, fences, monuments, statues, etc.) are not soiled, daubed, sprayed with paint, covered with paper, foil or materials of any other kind or otherwise damaged.

(2) In the park area it is forbidden to:

  • (a) Deposit waste or objects,
  • (b) Dispose of rubbish, paper (newspapers, etc.), containers or packaging material,
  • (c) Use enclosures or the edges of wells for gymnastics or climbing,
  • (d) Climb structures (ditch walls etc.), monuments, fountains or other installations,
  • (e) To set up or maintain fireplaces,
  • (f) To use barbecue or cooking equipment,
  • (g) Camp or ice skate,
  • (h) To bathe in or enter any body of water


(3) Visitors are only permitted to stay in the parks during opening hours. These are indicated at the entrance.

(4) It is forbidden to carry out commercial activities of any kind, such as selling, filming, photographing for commercial purposes, distributing leaflets, without the written permission of the Universalmuseum Joanneum. Furthermore, it is strictly forbidden to hold events of any kind without the written permission of the Universalmuseum Joanneu

(5) The instructions of the authorised staff of the Universalmuseum Joanneum must be followed.

§3 Protection of the green and planted areas – Trespassing and driving restrictions

(1) In the parks, green areas and planting areas may neither be walked on nor driven over, nor used for parking vehicles or similar means of transport. Ball games of any kind are also not permitted on the green areas.

(2) Green areas marked accordingly (e.g. picnic area) are exempt from the ban on entering. Driving over these marked areas is only permitted with wheelchairs and strollers.

(3) In the parks, chemical, mechanical or other damaging effects on plantings of any kind (flowers, trees, shrubs, etc.) and any impairment of their habitat are prohibited. In particular, climbing, swinging and sitting on trees is not permitted.

(4) The picking (cutting, pulling out, etc.) of flowers or shrubs is prohibited.

§4 Use of paths

(1) In the publicly accessible park, paths may neither be driven on by vehicles nor used for parking them.

(2) The prohibitions in subsection (1) do not extend to the use of

  • (a) vehicles for park maintenance purposes; and
  • (b) vehicles for access by staff, companies or event organisers working on the premises, provided that in such cases written consent has been obtained from the Universalmuseum Joanneum.

(3) In the publicly accessible parks, only the gritted paths may be used in snowy and icy conditions.

(4) It is not permitted to drive on the path on the rose mound with strollers.

§5 Use of sports equipment

(1) Cycling, sledding, cross-country skiing, as well as the use of sports equipment with wheels (e.g. roller boards, etc.) is prohibited in the parks.

(2) It is forbidden to bring bicycles. This prohibition also includes children's bicycles and pedal scooters.

§6 Children's games and similar activities

(1) The children's playground and the playground equipment may only be used by children up to the age of 10 accompanied by an adult supervisor.

(2) The use of the playground equipment on the playground shall be "in accordance with the dedication" and only by the intended number of children.

(3) Ball games, except those involving small children, are not permitted.

§7 Animal husbandry and feeding

(1) Dogs and other animals may not be brought into the park area, with the exception of assistance dogs.

(2) Feeding the animals living in the park (wild birds, peacocks, etc.) with food such as leftover bread or old pastries is strictly prohibited in the interest of the animals' health. Only suitable grain food (available from the park porter) may be used to feed the animals.

(3) The animals must not be chased, beaten, pelted with stones or otherwise injured.

§8 Responsible guardians

Persons supervising minors (§4 of the Verwaltungsstrafgesetz, BGBl Nr.52/1991) shall ensure that they comply with the requirements and prohibitions of this Ordinance.

§9 Miscellaneous

(1) The management reserves the right to prohibit individual persons from staying in the park area of Schloss Eggenberg for good cause.

(2) In the event of an official weather warning (e.g. www.zamg.ac.at), the use of the park is prohibited. Visitors must fully comply with the instructions of Schloss Eggenberg staff regarding the evacuation of the park.

§10 Penal provisions

Violations of the provisions of these park regulations will be reported to the police.
