Dear visitors!

Enjoy your visit and help us to look after Eggenberg Park. Please help us to protect it by observing the regulations set out below. They are designed to protect visitors, plants, animals and park features, while allowing you and other visitors to enjoy and experience the park.

§1 Scope of application

These park rules and regulations apply to all parts of Schloss Eggenberg Park open to the public and to all planted areas along the park walls and entrances to the park.

§2 Use and keeping clean of park areas open to the public

(1) Park areas open to the public shall be used in such a way that other visitors are not endangered or subjected to unreasonable annoyance. Facilities, equipment, and structures (such as benches, tables, play equipment, fences, monuments, statues, etc.) shall not be soiled, smeared, sprayed with paint, covered with paper, sheeting, or materials of any kind, or otherwise damaged.

(2) In park areas open to the public, it is prohibited:

(a) to deposit refuse or objects of any kind,
(b) to dispose of waste, paper (newspapers, etc.), containers, or packaging material,
(c) to play or climb on enclosures, fences, or edges of fountains,
(d) to climb on structures (moat walls, etc.), monuments, fountains, or other facilities,
(e) to smoke,
(f) to set or maintain open fires,
(g) to use barbecuing or cooking equipment,
(h) to camp or ice-skate,
(i) to bathe in or enter water areas.

(3) Visitors are only permitted in the park during opening hours. These are indicated at the entrance.

(4) All commercial activities such as the act of selling, filming, photographing, or distributing flyers are prohibited in the park without the written consent of Universalmuseum Joanneum. Furthermore, it is strictly forbidden to hold events of any kind without the written consent of Universalmuseum Joanneum.

(5) For photographs for private use (weddings, christenings, etc.), please complete our form (available at the park ticket office) and pay a set fee.

(6) Drone flights and commercial recordings of all kinds are prohibited throughout the entire park.

(7) The instructions of the authorized attendants of Universalmuseum Joanneum must be followed.

§3 Protection of grass and planted areas – No walking or driving

(1) In the park, visitors are not permitted to walk or drive on grass and planted areas nor park any vehicles or similar means of transportation. Ball games of any kind are also not permitted on grass areas.

(2) Designated grass areas (e.g. picnic area) are exempt from the ‘no walking’ rule in (1). The use of wheelchairs and prams is also permitted in these designated areas.

(3) In the park, visitors are not permitted to cause any chemical, mechanical, or other harm to plants of any kind (flowers, trees, shrubs, etc.) or harm their habitat. In particular, climbing, swinging, or sitting on trees is prohibited.

(4) The picking (cutting off, tearing out, etc.) of flowers or shrubs is prohibited.

§4 Use of paths

(1) In park areas open to the public, vehicles may not be driven on paths nor parked on them.

(2) The prohibitions in paragraph (1) do not extend to the use of

(a) vehicles for the purpose of park maintenance and
(b) vehicles for the purpose of providing access for employees, companies, or event organisers working in the park, provided that written consent has been obtained from Universalmuseum Joanneum in these cases.

(3) In park areas open to the public, only gritted paths may be used in the case of ice and snow.

(4) Prams are not permitted on the Rosenhügel (Rose Mound) path.

§5 Use of sports equipment

(1) Cycling, tobogganing, cross-country skiing, and the use of sports equipment with wheels (e.g. skateboards, etc.) is prohibited in the park.

(2) It is prohibited to bring bicycles into the park. This also applies to children’s bicycles and scooters.

§6 Playing and similar activities

(1) The children's playground and play equipment may only be used by children up to the age of 10 under adult supervision.

(2) The play equipment on the playground must be used “as intended” and only by the intended number of children.

(3) Ball games, except those involving small children, are not permitted.

§7 Bringing and feeding animals

(1) Dogs (with the exception of companion dogs) and other animals may not be brought into the park.

(2) Feeding the animals living in the park (wild birds, peacocks, etc.) with food such as leftover or stale bread products is strictly prohibited in the interests of the animals’ health.

(3) The animals may not be hunted, chased, beaten, pelted with stones, or injured in any other way.

§8 Responsible supervision

Persons in charge of supervising minors (§4 of the Administrative Penal Act, Federal Law Gazette No. 52/1991) must ensure that they follow the requirements and prohibitions of these park rules and regulations.

§9 Miscellaneous

(1) Management reserves the right to deny individuals access to Schloss Eggenberg Park for good cause.

(2) In the event of an official weather warning (e.g. www.zamg.ac.at), use of the park is prohibited. When the evacuation signal sounds, you must leave the park immediately. Visitors must follow the instructions of Schloss Eggenberg staff without exception when evacuating the park.

§10 Penalties

Violations of the provisions of these park rules and regulations will be prosecuted for trespassing.
