This little fruit plantation recalls the many "tree garden" which were planted between the high hedge walls of the Baroque Eggenberg garden from the 18th century onwards. They provided the large estate with high quality fruit as well as fruit for the kitchen.
The flavour of the past
With the restoration of a small formal orchard, the Eggenberg Park has been enriched by another attraction. A good 50 historical apple and pear varieties, grafted onto standard trees in the traditional manner, will bring the variety of shapes, colours and flavours of old fruit back to life in the coming years.
