The building, which served as a blacksmith's workshop and residential building, was in use until 1966. The brick building is sheltered by a steep raftered roof covered with shingles. The hammer forge is equipped with a so-called "tail hammer", which is driven by a medium-size water wheel.

A quarrystone forge with bellows, an anvil and numerous tongs and hammers are part of the forge's basic equipment. Hoes, braxes, hews, crampons and the so-called "Schöderberg plough" were produced in the forge.

A second waterwheel operated a grinding device, which was used to sharpen the picks and hoes. Attached to the workroom is a "shoeing bridge" where horses, oxen and other draught animals could be shod.

In front of the smithy there is a diverse educational and herb garden with numerous culinary and medicinal herbs to discover.
