The simple timber-framed building is sheltered by an asymmetrical gabled roof covered with planks. Two shelves house straw sticks or straw barns, which were mainly used in grain-growing areas. The hives stand on wooden flight boxes fitted with flight boards. The bees provided the farmers with the much-needed sweetener honey and additional wax before the sugar era.
