The works of director, artist and author Isaac Julien (*1960) deal with issues of identity politics, discourses of sexuality and gender, the economies of desire as well as with the correlations between concepts of 'nation' and 'narration'. Julien develops his artistic strategies within various media formats as well as theoretical writings, his work ranging from T.V. productions, documentary and feature films as well as music videos and video installations to essays and theoretical texts in the field of cultural studies. His oeuvre influenced post colonial discourse as well as the formation of Queer Theories and representational critique.
