“What is this?” – Anyone who passes the BIX Media Facade of the Kunsthaus in the evening and notices the play of lights often asks themselves this question. In Picture Hunt, symbols hidden in sparkle are captured and recognized with the camera!
Idea
The BIX Media Facade is flooded with flickering and glittering images that cannot be seen with the naked eye. The principle corresponds to early attempts at animation: Individual images follow one another, deceiving the senses. You can see image noise and motion sequences containing hidden symbols that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
With the help of a photo camera - whether an analog SLR or digital smartphone camera - a moment, i.e. a single image, can be captured and a special symbol can be found.
The camera acts as a kind of filter to reveal what is hidden on the Kunsthaus facade. Precisely because it is part of everyday life in social media that less and less attention is paid to the individual image, but rather a whole stream of images passes us by, Picture Hunt focuses attention on the individual image.
Competition and conditions of participation
Anyone who takes part in the photo challenge and shares individual pictures as an Instastory and tags them with #picturehunt and @kunsthausgraz will be entered into a competition. You can win 5x1 vouchers for a breakfast in the Kunsthauscafé with admission to the Kunsthaus.
Anyone who tags their Instastory with sharp, captured images from the BIX project Picture Hunt with @kunsthausgraz and posts it with #picturehunt between 21.10. and 13.11.2019 can take part. To do this, your Instagram account must be set to "public". The winners will be randomly drawn among all participants who meet the above conditions.
The competition is not connected to Instagram and is run by @kunsthausgraz. Cash settlements are not possible. The participants agree that their story will be shared on @kunsthausgraz. The winners will be notified via Instagram. The data received will only be used to process the competition.
Hint
It is no coincidence that the Kunsthaus facade features motifs that have something to do with the upcoming ARTS⇆ CRAFTS exhibition. The images, ranging from brushes and colour palettes to hammers, create stories and are symbols of the relationship between art and craft, which will be explored in the exhibition.
ARTS⇆CRAFTS, opening: November 14th, 7 p.m
About the cooperation
The Kunsthaus and Energie Graz invited the 5th year of the Film and Multimedia Art class at the HTBLVA Ortweinschule to develop new projects for the BIX Media Facade. From February 2019, the students and their teachers Jona Hoier, David Reischl and Joachim Dietze moved their lessons to the Kunsthaus Graz from time to time. International artists awaited them there to talk about their experiences with the BIX facade and provide detailed insights into their work.
Participating students: Richard Edelsbacher, Anna Fachbach, Johannes Fischer, Franziska Galle, Ines Handler, Nikolaus Heckel, Jacob Jabornig, Jona Lingitz, Lena Mannert, Julian Marx, Luka Radaelli, Lisa Rass, Andreas Schweighart, Sarah Steinhäusler, Benjamin Wedemeyer, Nina Weixler, Raphael Wohlgemuth, Katharina Zotter.
Energie Graz supported this cooperation financially and in terms of content, thus continuing the tradition of successful BIX cooperation projects such as Become a light sponsor! or Your name on the Kunsthaus BIX Facade.
