Artist Michael Schuster’s photography and installation work focuses on different levels of communicated information, revealing meta-levels and references. Focusing on the topic of pictorial composition, he concentrates on image-related and mechanical processes, and investigates myths and oral traditions.
He uses photography to create illusion, confounding the visitors’ subconscious understanding of the surroundings by applying a photographic representation of the real space onto a traditional traffic mirror. In referring to a specific learned way of seeing, he reveals the extent to which perception is modular.
