Work between meaning and imbalance

This catalogue was published for the exhibition 24/7. Work between meaning and imbalance at Kunsthaus Graz, 30.04.2024–19.01.2025

The world of work has undergone profound transformation in modern society. In the age of 24/7 access, traditional working hours have long ceased to be the norm. The demand for flexibility often contrasts with the removal of boundaries. Invisible labour such as unpaid domestic and care work is still a social problem and makes feminist perspectives necessary in the labour debate. The struggle for fair wages and safe working conditions is now more comprehensive, global and topical than ever. With growing precarisation, the world of work is becoming increasingly differentiated. At the same time, terms such as “new work”, “4-day week” and “work-life balance” are omnipresent. Are these mere empty phrases or realistic demands that will permanently change the dynamics between employers and employees?

The breadth of this range of topics is reflected in 30 artistic positions, some new productions, that allow visitors to immerse themselves in a reflection on the present and future of work.
