About the
Event

Now that openness and participatory impetus are considered factors of successful museum work, questions concerning the attitude and organisational culture within museums is becoming more and more virulent. Hierarchical systems are increasingly being replaced by team-based and functional models. The focus is shifting toward ways of giving employees a voice in matters and a chance to participate in decisions. Plus, new forms of expertise, dynamics, and cooperation are emerging that need to be examined. In this workshop, we will deal with the motives, methods, and effects of participatory organisational cultures. We will explore the potential of many voices and practice ways of unlearning strictly hierarchical behaviour patterns. What possibilities does this open for the museum of the future? Who gets a say and when, and what happens beyond words? How is it possible to reach better decisions together? How does a “radically democratic museum” work?
