The Museumsakademie considers itself to be a platform that opens up the museum to current social and cultural developments, addresses and develops contemporary issues and thus accompanies, reflects and supports museum work. We want to create and utilize network effects in order to bring diverse skills and forms of knowledge into exchange with one another. Integrating the experiences and interests of the participants is important to us, making the Museumsakademie a place of exchange and mutual learning processes.
Our events include workshops, conferences and excursions. These take place in cooperation with various museums and memory institutions in German-speaking countries and beyond. Since 2020, we have also been organising some of our events digitally or hybrid. Our programme addresses museum employees and all those interested in reflecting on and developing museological theory and practice.
The Museumsakademie was founded in May 2004 and is an institution of the Universalmuseum Joanneum. It is based in Graz, but operates in a far-reaching international network within which it has developed into a leading museological exchange forum.
