About the
Event

The practice of education is both complex and ephemeral. It arises from careful consideration and experience with topics and visitors, pursues different institutional and individual goals, employs a wide range of methods, and often takes place in a way that could never be predicted or planned in detail. And yet, what remains of this complex process? It seems to be a common characteristic across the different types of museums that the strategies, processes, and effects of educational work in museums are seldom documented, and if so, in a non-systematic way. This workshop wishes to explore this phenomenon and consider possible solutions. We will look at and discuss different methods and aims of recording, collecting, and communicating educational processes. This will include, on the one hand, an examination of the possibilities for sharing and reflecting on the methodological and subject-matter expertise among the professional community of cultural educators. On the other hand, this will lead to a discussion of approaches to incorporating the content of educational formats into the public communication of museums and making this content visible to the world. This question applies to many different forms of documentation and recording; however, an examination and analysis of the past might prove productive and instructive for the institution and beyond.
