About the
Event

The pandemic hit museums at different stages in their digital transformation journey. While some museums had already developed comprehensive approaches for adding a digital dimension to the different areas of museum work, others still found themselves at the beginning of this process. What the pandemic made clear to all of them, however, was the need and the necessity of staying in touch with their audiences despite closed doors or limited visitors. We are currently experiencing a phase in which the often spontaneous and experimental approaches of this time can be reflected on and potentially adopted permanently. The importance of digital formats is becoming more apparent than ever, especially to museum managers. Are these digital experiments leading to new channels of communication between museum staff? Who is responsible for such a field of work that transcends traditional department boundaries? How should we build our teams? Are we seeing educational work, whose face-to-face methods find themselves in crisis during times of limited contact, and digital museum practice coming together in a productive way? Can we find new uses for our experiences with the interdepartmental transfer of knowledge and methods? And how do we intend to evaluate the content and success of our digital formats in the future—beyond visitor statistics and marketing strategies?
