How did this joint project come about?

FRida & freD – The Graz Children's Museum and Universalmuseum Joanneum

In June 2016, the Ecsite Annual Conference (ECSITE, the European Network of Science Centres and Museums), the largest meeting for science communication in Europe, took place in Graz. The conference was hosted by FRida & freD – The Graz Children's Museum, the Universalmuseum Joanneum and the Science Center Network.

Under the motto "Colours of Cooperation", 1,081 international participants from 53 countries joined forces. Throughout the conference, this highly vivid and forward-looking community, eager to promote education in an exciting way, discussed how science and technology can be made interactively accessible to the public.

For Jörg Ehtreiber, Director of FRida & freD – The Graz Children's Museum, and Wolfgang Muchitsch, Scientific Director of the Universalmuseum Joanneum, this highly successful conference was what ultimately sparked the idea of jointly implementing a science centre in Graz.

FRida & FreD – The Graz Children's Museum provided many years of international experience in the field of interactive knowledge transfer, while the Universalmuseum Joanneum provided the infrastructure as well as scientific input as a major partner.

Since 19.10.2019 CoSA is open to all curious people from 12 years up!
