The Austro-Dutch composer, painter, author and media artist acquired many of his artistic skills by himself. From 1989-1990, he attended the Master school for painting in Graz, with Gerhard Lojen as his teacher. In 1991, the artist exhibited his works at Forum Stadtpark, and one year later at Friedrichshein, Berlin.
Since 1996, he has focussed on sound, video and computer art. In 1998, he founded the artist group reMi together with Renate Oblak. In 2000, his works were exhibited at the Centre Pompidou, Paris. In 2001, the artist became a free-lance journalist and moderator of free Radio Helsinki, and in 2002, a full member of mur.at.
Michael Pinter likes to add an acoustic level to his 3-D sculptures. One of his sculptures that are not only visually perceptible, but also an acoustic experience, is the SUB/DC. Since 2003, the work of art is propriety of the Österreichischer Skulpturenpark. The steel water silo, which connected to Minimal Art, produces sounds in a lower frequency range so that the pressure waves triggered are not only audible, but also tangible.
In 2002, the province of Styria granted him a scholarship, and he was paid a state scholarship in the Netherlands. Moreover, he showed his works at the Video Art Center in Tokyo. Furthermore, Pinter was awarded Austria’s promotional grant for composers and earned the third prize (director’s choice) for Teufel Eintritt at Black Maria Film Festival, New Jersey, USA. In 2004, the artist became a board member of IG-Pop and founded “eigenroth-Literatur” together with Michael Mastrototaro. In 2006, he founded the art space “Sumpfhahn” in Berlin. The artist participates in many international movie and media art festivals such as in New York, Athens, Helsinki and Rotterdam.
