About the
Event

Opening of the project Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst (I spy with my little eye) by Stefan Lozar with Elisabeth Fiedler (Institute of Public Art Styria), Florian Arlt (Steirischer Dachverband der Offenen Jugendarbeit (Styrian umbrella organization of open youth work)) and mayor Andrea Winkelmeier

...und weiter?! (...and then what?!)

With the cooperative project …und weiter?! (…and then what?!) the Institute of Public Art Styria connects art with youth work. Artists work with local adolescents in three Styrian communities: Bruck an der Mur, Voitsberg and Lebring to create three art works unique to the respective community.

Since the youth centre in Bruck an der Mur took over the old gallery called Matrix and started changing the shop window, there’s a lot going on. It has become a great spot, where kids can let off steam and hang out. Currently there’s a sticker project going on. Everyone can stick their slogans and phrases wherever, to showcase what’s going on in their minds.

On July 5th the first exhibition will be held in the new window gallery. It was fitted with new locks, lights, and a mounting system, to best present the artworks. The opening will be celebrated with a summer party. It will be great. Every two months there will be new exhibitions, so the kids have the opportunity to show their artworks regularly. So, they can both develop their skills and their self-confidence.

The youth centre is a save and inspiring place for the adolescent. Here they’re able to let off steam, either while playing table football, playing the PlayStation, in the kitchen or in the new room, which is fitted with a punching bag, a picture wall and an artwork by a Ukrainian artist.  Furthermore, a new gas-pizza grill was purchased, with which one can make a pizza in no time. The communal pizza-making connects the young people and guarantees great evenings spent together.

The focus is on giving the adolescent perspectives and to accompany them on their paths. In a time where materialistic stuff and fast distractions often take the forefront, the window gallery provides the chance to focus on meaningful things and creative expression. Another big project is the construction of a “democracy cell”. Here, the kids can learn how democracy works. In this cell, which is planed and built together, they can vote anonymously and experience what it means to be part of a democracy. Here, a new name for the window gallery will be chosen – another step, which promotes codetermination.

All these projects and the future exhibitions create a space in which the kids can grow, experiment, and discover new paths – a space which provides them with future prospects not only in a creative but also a personal way.
