About the
Event

This year, Alexandra Riewe-Foitl's four knowledgeable excursions in all directions focus on the end of the Second World War, which will be 80 years old in 2025. The title "Strapazierte Heimat" reminds us that the German term “Heimat” has been used as a catchphrase for many things, misused by demagogues for propaganda purposes and appropriated for commercial trash.

TIEFE, NICHT ENGE

This is how Hanns Koren described his concept of home. The legendary cultural politician managed to “reconcile” seemingly contradictory demands. Both the progressive art festival steirischer herbst and the tradition-preserving Austrian Open-Air Museum Stübing owe their existence to him. For the employee and later director of the Folklore Museum, Plows and Arl were the focus of his interest. And it is also the plows - grouped into a feisty squadron by Manfred Erjautz - that greet visitors to the museum today. Some things in the art scene may seem “weird”, twisted, transverse, which is also the etymological root of the term “queer”. In search of “fresh” culture in Western Styria, we see a giraffe squeezing into a little house and end up in the doss house of bearded Therese (kulturfrische.at)
