The Köse dates back to 1867 and is one of those drying frames that were used in the south of Carinthia and in the western high valleys of the country to dry grain, cut fodder, beans, maize straw and the like. These structures, also known as Harpfen or Hilgen, can also be found in Slovenia, in East and South Tyrol, in Switzerland and in the far north, i.e. in places where high rainfall makes it difficult to dry the soil.
The Dellacher Köse is a so-called double or courtyard harp, the interior of which was also used as a tool shed.
