At the Natural History Museum, the topic of climate change has been addressed and researched in recent years, both in a special educational format and as part of two exhibitions. With this new exhibition, the focus will now be on the climate changes affecting us. With the working title Climate Change in Styria, a medium-term exhibition is to be created in the Styrian Relief space.
Planned subjects include changes in the climate in the area of present-day Styria (scenarios for the development of temperature and precipitation, frequency of storms), consequences of climatic changes (e.g. forest cover, spread of invasive neobiota or disease-carrying organisms) and recommendations for action that follow from them.
The presentation takes the form of graphics, images and texts on the walls, individual objects as well as multimedia projections on the Styria Relief and the accompanying projection screen.
The Styria Relief is a highlight of the Natural History Museum and depicts Styria in great detail (including the areas of present-day Slovenia then known as ‘Lower Styria’) on a scale of 1:37,500 over 6 x 6 meters. Geo-referenced data can be projected onto the relief thanks to the accuracy of the relief and a modern projection system.
The exhibition is extended by a regular accompanying programme. Some four times a year, introductory lectures are held by top-class scientists on the subject, followed by a discussion with audience members.
