Inspired by the works of Michelangelo Pistoletto, to whom the Neue Galerie Graz was devoting a solo exhibition showing a large portion of his work, the exhibition at the Kunsthaus Graz will follow the ideals of dialogue and participation as the starting point for an investigation into the conditions and aspirations of a model of participatory civil society.
Michelangelo Pistoletto initiated the Cittadellarte, conceived as an open network, which while acknowledging the distinctions between work, education, communication, art, food, politics, spirituality and the economy, at the same time emphasizes the common inspiration in each open microcosm, positing a comprehensive notion of production in the foreground of an art system that functions largely according to economic considerations. The exhibition at the Kunsthaus Graz addresses this ideal of participatory work with art understood as an intervention, showing various projects by artists and artist collectives in their desire to create subversive, open and sustainable world models through culture.
