To accompany her solo exhibition Sanctuary, Azra Akšamija is also activating the BIX media façade. To this end, she is translating her Lightweaver project as a light-weaving mechanism onto the light shell radiating into the urban space.
Lightweaver (2017) is a kinetic light sculpture and artistic tool. The pattern is based on punched cards from Jacquard looms and Arabic lanterns. The project was originally realised as lamp designs in collaboration with residents of the Al Azraq refugee camp in Jordan.
Azra Akšamija proposes to rethink the shelter - beyond its function as physical protection - by creating immersive cultural environments.
