About the
Project

With NO WAR, the Kunsthaus in the city of Graz is sending a signal of solidarity with all the frightened, displaced and oppressed people who are suffering in the face of these intolerable military attacks.

Until recently, the war in Ukraine was unthinkable. Like every war, this one brings suffering and hardship. In the spirit of human rights, we urgently appeal to the aggressors to stop the hostilities and pursue diplomatic action!

Today, there are many signs of solidarity across Europe. The Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport, for example, is making efforts to support cultural workers, steirischer herbst is also calling for NO TO WAR and many private initiatives are providing help in times of need. ICOM also recalls the Hague Convention of 1954, which is an international treaty intended to protect cultural property, including in Ukraine. On this basis, a further urgent appeal is made to those politically responsible to engage in dialog.

In the midst of the Vietnam War, John Lennon and Yoko Ono had the unforgettable WAR IS OVER posters printed and distributed worldwide on the morning of December 15, 1969. In their spirit, we hope that we will soon be able to say this sentence not only as an appeal for peace, but with conviction and definitiveness.
