About the
Project

Digit Bob Ross is one of the first installations in which the BIX Media Facade of the Kunsthaus Graz is addressed immediately and unfiltered. Above all, it is intended to fulfill one purpose: to have fun.

With Digit Bob Ross, students of the Information Design Course at FH Joanneum present an interactive installation that turns the BIX facade of the Kunsthaus Graz into a reverse shadow theater for passers-by.

Digit Bob Ross uses a technical process that records movements with a camera and transmits them directly onto the facade of the Kunsthaus Graz: The installation participants move in front of the camera within a field marked on the floor, symbolizing the Kunsthaus Graz bubble. In this way, they can inscribe themselves into the facade of the building, create a drawing out of light and decide for themselves when and where which pixel of the BIX media facade should light up. To put it bluntly: The participants are the paintbrush, the Kunsthaus Graz an oversized canvas.

As the installation works in real time, the participants and the BIX facade interact closely with each other. Via a screen, the participants can observe the effect of their movements on the facade.
