We don't understand what is being said because the languages all sound foreign and incomprehensible. Only "Kunsthaus Graz" can be heard more or less clearly.
With this series, Oliver Hangl continues his "Rumour Project", this time in the form of three short films (WEIRDING 2.1, WEIRDING 2.2, WEIRDING 2.3). They were shot in Johannesburg (SA), Trogen (CH) and Vienna. In fact, it is completely impossible to understand the content of the conversations, as they are invented, purely onomatopoeic expressions. WEIRDING 2 follows on from WEIRDING 1, a sound installation in the public space in front of the Kunsthaus, where you could hear the whispered names of known and unknown people and gain the impression of being a witness to something that is happening in secret. With the second part of WEIRDING, the films, Hangl also suggests meaning, which invites speculation about what was heard/seen, but comes to nothing.
All parts of the WEIRDING project - there will be three in total - work specifically with media-generated speculation. The artist uses the method of viral marketing - with the difference that there is no specific message to be spread via the subconscious. The tools Hangl uses are "empty" - shells. They are charged solely by the recipients of his work, whereby Hangl uses the means of art and marketing to deliberately fuel conjectures that develop a certain momentum of their own and can no longer be controlled by him. The rumours arise solely through the reception of his work.
