The Viennese artist Gilbert Bretterbauer is installing the textile work Raumtextil Funktion & Empfindung, made specifically for the Kunsthaus Graz, in Space04 and Cafe iKU. It lends the space a haptic quality, makes it physically tangible and thus turns it into a textile spatial sculpture.

Gilbert Bretterbauer was born in Vienna in 1957. After studying at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (1979-1986), he began teaching there in 1987. From 1988 to 1990, he completed a post-graduate scholarship in Japan and returned to teaching at the University of Applied Arts in 1991. In 1996 he began teaching at the Art Centre Pasadena, USA. From 1998 he ran the studio Bretterbauer/Baldwin (Vienna-Los Angeles), which was relocated to Hawaii in 2006. Since 2010, the centre of his artistic activity has been back in Vienna. Since 2011, he has been teaching at the University of Art and Design in Linz, where he heads the textile art design department.
