About the
Project

Finnegan Shannon's work deals with the topic of accessibility and equal rights for people with disabilities. The development of seating furniture with white, often amusingly provocative lettering indicates that public spaces often forget to provide enough seating. Sitting is democratic. Because seated people are at eye level, relaxed and facing each other.

Inclusion at the Kunsthaus Graz

Inclusion has been an important theme of the Kunsthaus Graz's mission statement and education programme for years. The mediation of architecture is already conceived without thresholds, for example with special tours for people with disabilities. In this case, inclusion means both regressive cooperation and the visualisation of needs beyond the so-called norm. In this context, seating is a recurring theme in the exhibition centre: sitting is an important need - for resting, for contemplation, but also for coming together.

To match the new bench from Finnegan Shannon's project series Do you want us here or not, the benches in the forecourt have also been coloured azure blue.

With the kind support of styrianARTfoundation and Saubermacher.
