Exhibition Catalogue
This catalogue is published on the occasion of the exhibition Richard Kriesche. Capital + Code, Nov 15, 2008 - Feb 22, 2009, Kunsthaus Graz at Landesmuseum Joanneum.
Richard Kriesche, whose works almost always have a background in cultural policy, is an outstanding figure of contemporary art in having always oriented his artistic attention to the challenges of new technology and science. As a pioneer of media art, he was as much a populariser as an initiator.
Along with a foreword by curators Katrin Bucher Trantow and Peter Pakesch, the publication also includes an article by Regensburg-based editor and art critic Matthias Weiß, who puts Kriesche's works in their art and mediatheory context. Art historian Edward Shanken (Department of Media Studies, University of Amsterdam) compares older works by Kriesche with related works of more recent date, and looks at Walter Benjamin's theories of reproduceability. With numerous images and installation views.
