Reader
The present reader accompanies the processual exhibition, with mainly new productions specially conceived for the Gutshaus Kranz by Cezary Bodzianowski, Katrina Daschner, Elmgreen & Dragset, Tim Etchells, Vlatka Horvat, Christian Jankowski, Marysia Lewandowska & Neil Cummings, Katarina Löfström, Daria Martin, Kris Martin, Frédéric Moser & Philippe Schwinger, Warren Neidich, Roman Ondak, Elisabeth Penker, Philippe Rahm, Markus Schinwald, Dejan Spasovik, Apolonija Sustersich, The Centre of Attention, Mark Wallinger, Markus Weisbeck and Herwig Weiser.
Protections – an exhibition “under construction” that will be a new event every day – invites the complicity of the public as co-authors in an exhibition that is not meant to be just another exhibition but a platform without fixed bearings and with a dynamic structure that intermeshes art, performance, theatre and architecture. It places some of the most important contemporary artists and names in performative art in the centre of consideration, and focuses on forms and formats of live presentation whose temporary, provisional and light-hearted nature are an expression of the reflection that there is no security in life but instead an unquenchable longing for shelter, control and contentment.
The essays selected for this reader by the following scholars, experts and curators from the fields of art, architecture, psychology and sociology explore and analyse situative, processual, interdisciplinary and political phenomena and everyday practice, and examine basic aspects of the contemporary world over and beyond the promises of modern life: Marius Babias, Zygmunt Bauman, Beatrice von Bismarck, Jordan Crandall, Claire Doherty, Jean Fisher, Elizabeth Grosz, Nikolaus Hirsch, Irit Rogoff, Stefan Römer, Renata Salecl and Michael Terman.
