Grasping Speed
Exhibition catalogue
Thanks to the increasing demand for deceleration, the preoccupation with speed has resurfaced, and is critically scrutinised both as a metaphor for the development of life itself and for concentrated situations full of energy. At the same time, while harnessing the optimism of modernism, speed is enthusiastically celebrated. The works selected for the exhibition Catch Me!are about the sheer thrill of acceleration but also take a critically detached look at speed, whether via anachronistic deceleration, analysis or forceful extraction of an essence.
This catalogue contains installation shots of the works on display and essays by Renata Salecl on the topic of fear as a driving force of speed and life itself, Andreas Broeckmann on the history of speed as a history of constant acceleration as well as warnings of impending disasters and Katrin Bucher Trantow on the courage of analysing speed and life itself.
