Helene Thümmel
AUGENMEHR, Edition Kunsthaus Graz, 2023
To accompany the participatory exhibition intervention AUGENMEHR @ Sol LeWitt's Wall. Performed at Kunsthaus Graz, Helene Thümmel has created two editions of hand-stamped eyes. Deep blue in colour, the eye stands for the widespread symbol of protection and attention. The more/sea also stands for a common remembrance of drowned people seeking protection who have lost their lives in the Mediterranean, one of the most dangerous escape routes in the world. Helene Thümmel's work deliberately gives more attention to the question of the conditions and consequences of protection, demarcation and security.
