About the
Exhibition

The ‘Minorities Initiative’ exhibition recalls the right-wing extremist terror and fear that Austria’s minorities were subjected to between 1993 and 1996. The show commemorates the victims, lets those affected have their say, and sheds light on the role played by the political and social climate of the 1990s in these acts of violence.

Various aspects of the events are commented upon from different perspectives in video interviews held with contemporary witnesses and experts. Right-wing extremism is no longer a fringe phenomenon. The inhumane propaganda has found its way into the so-called mainstream of society. Disguised as harmless protest, it intervenes in social debates. The shift from right-wing extremist ideas to right-wing extremist terror, from verbal attacks to physical violence, is fluid. The history of the letter and pipe bomb terror of the 1990s is not the only evidence of this; rather, this is an issue more pressing and relevant than ever.
