Samuel Ekeh places a block-like, geometrical sculpture into the park. This sculpture combines both architectural and figurative elements. The papier maché surface is painted and sports fragments of old Hebrew characters. Samuel Ekeh describes his sculpture “Weeping Tears” as a “provocative structure” rather open in its meaning. At the same time, he perceives the work as a “medium of communication”, comparing it with African masks that create a magical connection between spirits and humans. Abstraction and formal reduction of the sujet in works by Fritz Wotruba and Constantin Brancusi are important points of reference for Samuel Ekeh. In contrast to them though, he consciously uses short-lived materials that annul any claims to endurance or validity.
