The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management in the course of measure 9 (M 9 - § 3 Z 9 Forest Fund Act).
Project objective
The primary objective of the project, apart from museum research and knowledge transfer, is to increase the general awareness of the great importance of wood as an indispensable element of the cultural-anthropological development of our society on the one hand, and of the possibilities for a sustainable improvement of the ecological issues of our time resulting from historical knowledge on the other hand.
In the course of demonstration and hands-on workshops, educational programmes and presentations on major event days, visitors can observe and try out the work steps and techniques involved in the production of roof shingles, fences, well troughs, gutters and wooden flooding systems and talk to the experts on site.
The current implementation of the project is a further development of the educational and information work of the Austrian Open-Air Museum on the historical-ecological significance of wood as a material.
