SOIL WALL GARDEN

In their work at a winery in Tieschen, STRL_ (Shō Alexander Murayama and Samuel Collins) engaged intensively with architecture and space. Their project SOIL WALL GARDEN, a temporary sculptural earth garden conically reaching four meters into the earth, served as a place of retreat and concentration, as well as a field of inquiry. Wandering layers of soil could be perceived here as well as the resistance to idyllic promises of salvation in favor of an open and constantly changing situation as a concept of life, marked by a seating accommodation from a transit point. Communication, concentration and reflection are clearly inscribed in this work.
