Samson Ogiamien sees his art as a bridge between cultures and an opportunity to bring people together.
Iyagbon's Mirror is a multidisciplinary spectacle involving museums and events focusing on the performing arts. The question of the provenance and restitution of thousands of artifacts that have been exhibited in museums across Europe is at the center of a major debate today. This artistic contribution aims to be a powerful stimulus for reflection across cultures, spaces and art forms.
Samson Ogiamien, born in Benin City in Nigeria, is a artist living in Graz. After his academic training with a focus on art and design as well as welding and construction and the management of a sculpture workshop, he came to Austria in 2004. Here, the young artist attended the two-year master class for sculpture at the Ortweinschule in Graz, which he completed with distinction in the summer of 2007. In 2014, he was awarded the Art Promotion Prize by the City of Graz. Ogiamien's works, always in the tradition of his homeland, depict people in semi-abstract form, often using “modern” materials such as concrete, iron, paint and synthetic resin.
