A constantly shifting concept of reality whose reflection, examination, expansion and perception are themes addressed by Michael Schuster. The repeated attempt to define reality and ist verifiability serve as a basis of the work of this conceptual mediaanalytical artist. In a perplexing yet at the same time enlightening way, he employs Friedrich Hebbel’s quotation to open up individual but also general and public encounters. Triggered by motion sensors, two sets of lettering in complementary colours appear successively on a mirror that reflects deep layers situated at the entrance to the Landhaus. Identified as a parliamentary and democratic avowal, this building forms the basis for Schuster’s choice of phrase, opening up an endless spectrum of reflection about perception, awareness and responsibility.
This project was part of the exhibition Light that presented three projects in the public space and one international conference to the topic in the Joanneum District in 2015.
