In the municipality of Labuch east of Graz, a flood retention basin was built, which was designed as part of a regional project to become a point of identification in the municipality, the region and the landscape itself. Markus Wilfling – invited to participate in the project with an artistic intervention – planted the word gedächtnis (memory) on the protective dam. gedächtnis, inscribed in the landscape, stands for the memory of the flood disasters of the past, but also for water as a carrier and store of information over millennia, and for the (new) living and communication space in nature that is changing in the present and the future.
A project of the municipality of Labuch, supported by Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Steiermark.
