Nasan Tur
This book is part of the project "The Unknown Night" by Nasan Tur, winning project as part of the international artistic competition "Bulwark against the East?", initiated and realized by the Institute for Art in Public Space Styria in cooperation with the State Armory.
In this book, the German-Turkish artist Nasan Tur counters existing myths with the legend of the Unknown Knight, invented together with Graz schoolchildren.
With the winning project of the international competition “Bulwark against the Southeast?” of the Institute for Art in Public Space Styria, Nasan Tur challenges collective memory. In contrast to traditional historical methodology, which insists on pure fact, contemporary historians are aware that social events are “constructions” rather than isomorphic accounts with an “objective” element of reality (Janet Abu-Lughod, On the Remaking of History: How to Reinvent the Past, 1989).
