The sixth volume in the PUBLIC ART series, which has reported on the activities of the Institute for Art in Public Space Styria since 2012, concludes Elisabeth Fiedler's tenure as director of the institute.

Moving out and beyond, conceptualizing, communicating, and collaborating are intentions that we have always pursued with the institute. Several focal points have emerged as especially significant in recent years. Recognising neuralgic social, political, and artistically relevant issues, as well as addressing moving themes, proves to be a particular challenge and responsibility. Expanded media are just as crucial here, as are themes of diversity, coexistence, and mutual acceptance. The open engagement with history and the future is evident in numerous works of memorial culture in Styria, based on the premise of a contemporary concept of monuments. Art in public space is a discursive negotiation site of friction and opens up new perspectives and viewpoints.
