A guide to art in public space in Graz
Distinguished as Cultural Capital of Europe (2003), in addition to its special architecture dating as far back as mediaeval times, Graz also features numerous unique contemporary works of national and international artists in public and semi-public space or as “Percent for Art” projects. Allowing, encouraging and maintaining temporary and permanent exhibits testifies to a city’s self-perception in terms of culture. Because these artworks are inscribed in the city in a different, less dominant, way to stately architecture and because they are of particular importance, they require special communication. The revised version of the offsite graz guide features a selection of fifty-seven artworks – from classical modernism to the present – enabling visitors to discover, interpret and experience them anew.
