Mortar

Gun foundry Conrad Seiser in Graz, 1652

Mortars served as heavy siege weapons, from which cast balls or stone balls were thrown against the town walls or fortifications.

In 1652, the Styrian estates ordered this mortar from the Graz gun foundry of Conrad Seiser. It bears the Styrian panther, the heraldic animal of its purchasers as well as the inscription “CONRAD SEISER ZU GRAZ GOS MICH ANNO 1652” (“I was casted by Conrad Seiser 1652”).

The bed in wood and the bosses are not originally, they were made on a historical basis.
