The state border between Slovenia and Styria separates a uniform and historically evolved cultural landscape, which has undergone a similar development from the oldest periods of history, which are only documented by archaeological finds, until the beginning of the 20th century. Although archaeological research in this region wanted to overcome the modern borders even before the independence of the Republic of Slovenia, the political situation at the time meant that not all of the sites located on the border were freely accessible for research.
As part of the BorderArch-Steiermark project, a follow-up project of InterArch-Steiermark, the sites along the Austrian-Slovenian border were recorded and examined using state-of-the-art methods and tools in close cooperation between Slovenian and Styrian institutions.
