The exhibition takes a transdisciplinary approach, linking topics such as geology as the foundation of landscape, human and animal habitats in a changing climate, agriculture, globalisation, transformations, the origins of objects, 100 years of the radio, special features of the region, intangible cultural heritage, communication, tourism, health, mobility and more. All themes are centred around humans, their experiences and their lives. A particular emphasis is placed on climate protection and sustainability.
When it comes to economic, political, social and cultural actions, a trend towards regionality as a clear countermovement to globalisation has become evident, and with it a need to question the identity, authenticity and the creation of new spheres of influence, especially in rural regions. As a regional museum and part of the Universalmuseum Joanneum, Schloss Trautenfels is tasked with collecting, preserving, researching and communicating the cultural and natural history of the district of Liezen. In line with this mission, we utilise our expertise to showcase what exactly it is that makes this region ‒ the Ennstal valley and the district of Liezen ‒ so special and unique among the regions of Europe in scenic displays covering various topics.
The Schloss Trautenfels special exhibition is a project associated with the ‘European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024’ that combines both current and historical socio-political issues.
