The Dianasaal impresses with a beautiful painting and stucco work on the ceiling. Schloss Stainz was founded as an Augustinian canons' monastery in 1229. In its present appearance, it has roots in both the Renaissance and Baroque periods. It sits enthroned in perhaps the most charming part of western Styria, where the Blaue Wildbacher - the Schilcher grape - thrives best. Today, the imposing castle houses the Joanneum Museum of Hunting and the Joanneum Museum of Agriculture and serves as the Meran family's home and business residence.
