Joanneum Quarter
The refurbished museum reopened its doors in the Joanneum Quarter on 26th November 2011, the bicentenary of the Joanneum’s founding. The historic oldest part of the museum in Raubergasse, a beautiful early Baroque building, will house the Natural History Museum (2013). The remarkable courtyard of the building forms a magical setting every year for two of the leading festivals on the Styrian art and culture scene—styriarte and la strada. The neo-Baroque museum building in Neutorgasse provides new homes for two departments of the Joanneum Universal Museum—the Neue Galerie, Graz and the Multimedia Collections. The third constituent of the Joanneum Quarter is the Styrian State Library. All the buildings are linked via the Visitors’ Centre, which also provides access to the museum shop and events room.
